I dug an old painting from around 1991 out of storage and painted over it, leaving all the good parts of the original and making the forms more solid (my work eight to ten years ago was much more sketchy, more like drawing with paint than painting). Anyway, I liked the final result much better than the original. Actually, this is something I do often. Probably about one out of five paintings are done over old ones. As my work changes through the years, the older ones tend to look less and less like keepers. One neat thing about this one is a very subtle line that goes all the way across from left to right near the top (barely visible in reproduction). This is where two pieces of canvas were sewn together at the factory, a manufacturing defect that I incorporated into the design. This one is hanging in our dining room. My wife won't let me sell it.
