Sometimes I just can't get it right. This painting was originally called "Decade No. 54," completed in 1989. Eventually I decided it needed to be changed, so I repainted it in 1992. I wasn't satisfied with it then either, but I didn't know what else to do with it.

Five years later I took a fresh look at it and saw that a few simple changes would make it work. That's so typical of the way I work.

By the way, yes there were more than 50 paintings in the "Decade" series.
