Titanic
(30" x 17", oil on canvas, Jan. 2001)As always, I struggle for titles. The thrusting movement and the cold blues and whites made me think of icebergs. Thus the title. If you’re literal minded, I guess the sinking ship is the dark shape at top, and below in the water are some strange snake-like creatures, one with a nice round woman's butt (can you see it?), which, coincidentally, is almost identical to the one in the upper right corner of "Things Meld." Similar forms like these repeating in painting after painting are not intentional. As I manipulate the paint on the surface, certain forms appear without any conscious intent on my part. I don't speculate about what that may or may not say about the content of my unconscious mind.
