Dreadful Submersion
This is the second in a series of about half a dozen small pictures. I worked on them all simultaneously. They were painted on wooden panels that were already framed, and I painted the frames too. When I photographed them, however, I got too close with the camera and had to crop out the frames. This one I felt good about because of the nice spatial illusions ... not deep space as in perspective, but the feeling that parts of the surface have been ripped away to expose an underlying layer, which is pretty much literally how I did it. |
