If you look back at the two versions of "Boys' Life" you will see a head-and-bust shape in the original version that was cut away (literally, since these are wood constructions). I glued that piece on a wood panel and glued cut-out pieces of another old painting on top of it, then I added the two squiggly, teardrop shapes at the bottom. Before connecting them with bolts, I traced their shapes on the panel to create the cascade of teardrops that surround the bust. I can't remember why I decided to call it Cafe Lautrec, although there must have been some intention to honor Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
